I always wondered if Stromberg rigged Liparus to destruct once his subs performed their attack. The movie is unclear. Still love it.

One plot detail which strikes me in retrospect is that, for all that Bond was ready at first to engage with the sexy woman, after the violence he had utterly lost interest in her. It's almost as if the story is saying, "honey, you lost."

If Bond could just stroll away from the facility in his dinner jacket, why did he need to swim in?

Moore really shines in the scenes where he’s dead serious - grimly watching the Liparus sink; displaying angry desperation in begging Captain Carter to hold off blasting Atlantis with Anya still aboard; the final confrontation with Stromberg

Like how Captain Carter’s (Shane Rimmer) XO takes over getting everybody aboard the USS WAYNE

Why didn’t somebody just give us the third on film that we deserved with technology get them so good of movies media I mean you can bring him back right now if they want to change it would be awesome though

This is a totally asinine beginning to one of the most overrated films in the series! The duck on the head; the easy entrance to the factory; the tux under the wetsuit; the reflection in the woman’s eyes; and the boring, stale fight (again) staged by Bob Simmons. By the way, Simmons did this particular “gun barrel” entrance - not Connery - and it looks even more ridiculous now!

Pierce Brosnan was better than Connery and that’s no disrespect to Sean.

How typical of WOKE, cotton wool culture that they cut the electrocution in the bath part when they show the film before 9pm in the UK. Ruins the whole opening sequence and insults the intelligence of the average child and parent. Thank God they didn't when I watch it over Christmas in 1978. I was 7 years old and no, it didn't turn me into a murderer!!

This is probably one of the few Bond movies were he just shoots the bad guy with his PPK, usually something more dramatic!!

What could have been.

This opening scene was inspired by real-life Dutch Merchant Navy man Peter Tazelaar, who during WWII took assignments from the British secret service. "One of his most outlandish but real missions, in November 1941, involved donning a posh tuxedo, protected by a 'dry suit,' and swimming ashore at night to infiltrate a Nazi officer's party...." I would choose the mission because that's what makes the perfect spy. Choosing the mission over the girl might be hard for Bond but he knows what he has to do other than not getting too close to the enemy which he has done before.
